Tamu Lhosar, greatest festival of Gurung community, was observed amid a fan fare in Tundikhel in the capital today. On the occasion, Gurung people living in the capital had gathered in the venue, attired in their traditional outfit and ornaments. They had also presented their cultural tunes to the music.
Government has announced gazetted holiday for today in honor Tamu Lhosar.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala was invited as the chief guest in the program. Inaugurating the event, PM Koirala vowed to preserve festivals and culture of different community and ethnicity in the country. He also declared to assist the Gurung community with a purse of 2.5 million rupees from the government side, as a token to construct a building for the community purpose.
Talking to a different note, Koirala assured of promulgating a people friendly constitution in stipulated timeframe, by January 22. On the occasion, different people form Tamu community was felicitated for their contribution to the nation and community.
Group of Tamu people representing their community from different parts of the county had exhibited their traditional cultural, dance and procession.
