Three Nepali students kidnapped in Thailand five days ago have been rescued safely through a joint operation of Thai and Nepali police on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Acting Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand, Dornath Aryal, two of the nine kidnappers were arrested in the course of a raid that Thai police commandos carried out at 2 pm Tuesday at a villa located in the Mooban area of Bangkok. “Although the kidnappers are found to have inflicted mental torture on their victims, they did not subject them to physical torture. They are all safe and sound,” Aryal told Republica over the phone.

Those rescued -- Karna Hachhethu, Bibhus Rijal and Ronesh Shrestha -- are bona fide students at ABAC College ot Assumption University in Thailand. They were kidnapped by acquaintances after promising them a party at a pub.

But they took the three students to Mooban and held them hostage in a small villa. “We did not even sleep for the past few days. Today is one of the happiest days in my life as we could rescue all the victims safely,” Aryal further said, adding, “I was with the rescued victims for over three hours today and they are all safe and sound.”

While Superintendent of Police Pitambar Adhikari of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) under Nepal Police reached Bangkok to help deal with the kidnapping, Thai police had separately formed an investigation committee under a police colonel to locate the victims and bust the kidnappers.
