Psoriasis is a common, chronic, immune-mediated systemic disease characterized by skin lesions including red, scaly patches, papules, and plaques, which usually itch. The skin lesions seen in psoriasis may diverge in severity from minor localized patches to complete body coverage. The disease affects 2–4% of the broad population. The five main types of psoriasis are plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic. Plaque psoriasis, the most common form, characteristically manifests as red and white scaly patches on the top layer of the skin. Skin cells rapidly accumulate at these plaque sites and create a silvery-white appearance.
Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees, but can affect any area, including the scalp, palms of hands, and soles of feet, and genitals. In dissimilarity to eczema, psoriasis is more likely to be found on the outer side of the joint. Fingernails and toenails are frequently affected and can be seen as an inaccessible sign. The patches normally appear on your elbows, knees, scalp and lower back but can appear anywhere on the body. Around two per cent of the UK population, 1.8million people, is affected by the condition, which can start at any age.
For most, psoriasis increases before the age of 35 and the condition affects men and women equally. The severity of the condition varies from person to person, for some causing a minor irritation, while for others it has a major blow on their quality of life. Here in the video they have talked it in details. It has also guest a celebrity who was also the victim of the diseases/ here in the video she shares her experience how was it being affected by Psoriasis and how far she fought with it. We have Stacy London. She is an American stylist/fashion consultant, author, and magazine editor.
