Great Festival ‘Maghi’ has been Celebrated at Tundikhel




Tharu community’s greatest festival ‘Maghi’ was marked on Thursday in Tundikhel, Kathamandu, with a fanfare. Tharu community, living in the capital from differet parts of the nation, was gathered to celebrate their festival in their traditional ornaments and attire. They had also presented various cultural programs from different parts of Tharu community, as a part of attraction. 

Maghi is observed as the greatest festival of the community and  it carries values of gathering of the all family members in a place, and forget ill feelings towards each other. This festival is also considered as a time of having delicious food, wearing new and cultural dresses and inviting relatives and dear ones for feast and festival. This is also a time of reviewing work of the whole year, and learn lesson from the past, and make good plan for the future. 

Meanwhile, different varieties of Tharu food were showcased in 150 stalls. Varieties of Ghongi, Crab, Fish, Mouse, Mo-mo, Pakauda, popular local sweets in Tharu community were the mouth watering food items in the program. Visitors could be seen enjoying the delicious Tharu food and remain entertaining with cultural program presented in the venue.

Talking at the same venue, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said culture and custom of the ethnicity and caste would be included in the new constitution so as to preserve the culture and custom of all community. Koirala also expressed his commitment on promulgation of constitution on the basis of consensus.
