The accused in the Basantapur acid attack , Jiwan BK, fell unconscious during a press conference held at Metropolitan Police Office in Rani Pokhari by the Nepal Police on Friday. BK was handcuffed when he lost consciousness.But the face of BK, who was apprehended after a lengthy investigation, looked normal after he lost his consciousness. He has been taken to the police hospital. According to the police, BK was taking medication for depression.The police arrested BK from his Tokha-based rented room on Friday morning.On February 22, a group of four masked men barged into a tuition center in Jhochhen and splashed acid on Sangita Magar and Sima Basnet, students at the tuition centre.
Metropolitan Police Chief AIG Bigyan Sharma, during the press conference, said the incident orchestrated by BK was an act of revenge towards Sangita and her family. The family of BK and Magar’s family had once lived in the same house. BK has confessed to the police that he carried out the acid attack .
The police also recovered paper cuttings of news reports on acid-attacks from his room.It has been learnt that the accused had been lying to his parents about his whereabouts saying that he was in Gangtok, Sikkim to get enrolled in the Indian Army.
