The MBBS students at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) have boycotted all academic programs showing unanimity to Dr Govinda KC’s hunger strike. Other services in the hospital have not been disrupted. Dr KC, a senior professor at TUTH is on the fourth day of his fifth hunger strike.
His protest came after Prime Minister Sushil Koirala directed the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to begin the affiliation process to medical colleges. The government in the past had agreed to grant affiliations to new medical colleges only after passing a health policy.
The students’ boycott started early Wednesday morning with 250 students gathering in front of the hospital demanding the government address demands put forward by Dr KC and also handed a signed copy of the 10-point demand to Dayanidhi Dawadi, Administrative Officer, and Private Secretariat of the Prime Minister’s Office.
